Nikki Haley burned Donald Trump in her SOTU responseĪnd she did, kind of. You get all the benefits and fun of a Blu-ray with the modern conveniences of app integration and easy upgrades.īlu-ray Player FAQ Q: What is a Blu-ray player?Ī: Way back in 2006, the world of at-home movie viewing received two new compelling options. Not only can the device be updated to the most modern firmware, but your ability to download apps and stream content from popular services like Netflix should be a huge selling point. More room for popcorn on your coffee table!Īn internet connection for your Blu-ray player isn’t necessary, but it does open up a whole host of options you may want. Some WiFi-enabled players even allow phone-app-based interactions, eliminating the need for a remote. Your internet router may not be anywhere near your player, so threading an ethernet cable around the house can be a real pain. First, this piece of equipment will not need to be hard-wired into your internet system via an ethernet cable. WiFi – A WiFi-enabled Blu-ray player offers the user a number of worthwhile benefits. While both the USB connection and SD Slot can accommodate moving images content, the fidelity won’t be the same as dropping a Blu-ray disc in the player, so don’t make a buying decision based solely on the fact that you have a bunch of movies on a hard drive you can play through the USB slot. USB ports – Like an SD Card Slot, the USB port is another option for loading up saved material. This useful addition to any Blu-ray player can make a big difference in the device's utility and adds a layer of additional functionality. This also allows people to review content on a screen much larger than their computer.Īdditionally, if you wanted to load up some music files on an SD, you could easily make a playlist and pop it into the SD Card Slot on your player for some ambiance. In some cases, photographers like to load up pictures on their SD card, pop that thing into the SD Card Slot on their Blu-ray, and watch as their television comes to life with the images they took on their last vacation. These thumbnail-sized storage devices are most commonly used in cameras and audio recording equipment. SD card slot – An SD card, or “Secure Digital" card, is a storage device, much like a thumb drive, external hard drive, or even a Blu-ray disc. But for most people, the small pile of remote controls stacked on the table is acceptable, if not occasionally confusing. Many cinephiles opt for a higher-end universal remote that allows them to control everything with one handy handheld. This is your wireless connection to control what’s happening on the machine. Remote control – Every Blu-ray device ships with a remote controller. While this may not be a novel concept for the Smart TV generation, this was a game-changer at the time of its release. Downloadable trailers also allow the viewer to enhance their experience. HDMI carries audio signals and video signals, so if you are using an HDMI for video, you won't necessarily have to plug in additional audio cables.īD Live – This special connection allows Blu-ray devices to connect to and interact with special features such as internet chats, chats with directors, internet games, downloadable features, and quizzes. HDMI audio out – HDMI audio is the modern connection for stereo systems. Often these systems offer this legacy connection alongside an HDMI. An analog out on a Blu-ray player allows the user to plug in their audio via RCA cables. However, a lot of the revolutionary and category-establishing home audio equipment was built when people were still using RCA cords. The most common connection for audio in modern systems is HDMI. The tradition of horse races ended in 1960, but the carnival rides - and the beer tents, of course - remain an essential part of Oktoberfest. Soon after, Munich city officials took up the mantle of planning and running the festival each year, and it grew to include beer and food stands, agricultural competitions, and live cooking. Today, it’s often called just the “Wies’n.” In subsequent years, Oktoberfest expanded to include carousels and swings, which first appeared in 1818, adding a carnival element to the celebration. The following year, the town held the festival in the same location, in a field that was dubbed Theresienwiese, after the princess. The celebration lasted several days, ending on October 17 with horse races. The royal occasion took place a year after a quelled rebellion in a neighboring county, so to establish a sense of unity across the Bavarian state, the family invited about 40,000 citizens to join the festivities at the gates of the city of Munich. The evolution of the current Oktoberfest spans more than 200 years, dating back to the inaugural event on October 12, 1810, and the nuptials of Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Picture Alliance via Getty Images What does Oktoberfest celebrate besides beer? Inside the Schottenhamel beer tent at Oktoberfest 2018 in Munich. Scattered across the grounds, visitors will find carnival games and rides, including carousels, ferris wheels, and what’s called the “Pendulum of Chaos,” a hybrid swing and slingshot ride with two cabins of eight riders swinging in multiple directions. The beer tents feature live brass bands (chosen by each tent proprietor) that perform modern hits and folk music alongside classic German tunes. Visitors liken Oktoberfest to a mashup of beer, food, and music festivals combined with a carnival. In addition to lots of drinking, the festivities also include a costume parade and live music. The celebration kicks off with a gun salute and a ceremonial keg tapping by the city’s mayor. About 6 million people flock to Oktoberfest every year to patronize the 36 beer tents packed into the grounds. The Oktoberfest grounds span a 100-acre swath of land to the west of the city, and is still held on the same site where the original festival was held in 1810. Oktoberfest is a two-week, carbohydrate-filled festival of beer and merriment held in Munich, where the event began in the early 19th century. Here now, a look back on the origins of Oktoberfest, its evolution into the mother of all beer festivals, and how this German tradition became an oft-replicated tradition across the globe. Some festivities last a day, others for a weekend or two, with the mightiest of all Oktoberfests spanning two weeks from the fall equinox through early October. Oktoberfest now inspires celebrations heavy on the food and beer-drinking all over the world. With roots in Germany, the annual celebration calls to mind beer steins, lederhosen, and pretzels, but with a history that goes back more than 200 years, the story of Oktoberfest is deeper than that stereotypical image. Challenge levels can be created and played alone, but unlocking characters and levels requires playing one of the main game modes (like Party Mode) which are only multiplayer. Each year, the start of fall signals it’s almost time for Oktoberfest. Please note: this is primarily a multiplayer game. Play as a chicken, horse, sheep, raccoon and other wonderful animals.Shared controller mode to play multiplayer with one controller or keyboard.Huge library of blocks to create an infinite variety of levels.

Judging by the NBA 2K19 M圜AREER trailer, this year’s story is going to be a lot better. We’ve given it a listen, and have a couple of thoughts to share. The NBA Live 19 soundtrack has been revealed. It’s not the traditional experience we’re still wanting the game to provide, but the additions do look and sound good. Trailers and developer blogs have given us an insight into what to expect from the extended experience in The One.We have our first hands-on experience with NBA Live 19 following the release of the game’s demo! In our impressions, we break down what we liked and disliked, as well as what’s improved and what still needs improvement. We have our detailed impressions to share with the community, as well as our thoughts on everything that we learned about NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 over the past seven days. Let’s tip things off with the positives!Įpisode #260 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we recap a busy week in basketball gaming news and previews, which included the release of the NBA Live 19 demo. I’ve broken my impressions of the NBA Live 19 demo down into three categories: positives, negatives, and thoughts as I look ahead to the release of the full version. There are definitely areas that still have ample room for improvement – this year and next – but it does feel like NBA Live 19 has taken further steps in the right direction. Overall, I came away with a positive impression of the forthcoming release from EA Sports. As with the NBA Live 18 demo, it’s quite a comprehensive look at the upcoming game, providing us with a decent idea of what to expect this year. I spent a lot of time with it over the weekend, experiencing everything it had to offer. That begins with the NBA Live 19 demo, which was released last week. That’s something I’d like to change, starting with NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19! With all of my other original features and the podcast providing a platform to share my opinions, I’ve neglected to provide comprehensive reviews and impressions in written format in recent years. Although I’ve given my impressions of the NBA Live 19 demo in Episode #260 of the NLSC Podcast, I wanted to provide a write-up as I know not everyone enjoys audio content. If your shrimp are whole, remove the head first, then the legs, and then proceed to peel off the outer shell.Assemble the tacos: Place the tortilla down, add a few spoons of the cabbage slaw, add a few shrimp, drizzle avocado crema over the top (see note on crema drizzle), garnish with fresh cilantro, serve with lime wedges!.If grilling, skewer them so they do not fall through the grates (see note on cooking shrimp). Flip halfway through to get a nice char/color on each side. Depending on the size of the shrimp, they will cook in about 4-6 minutes. Ensure they are all laid flat into the pan and not on top of each other, this will allow for even cooking. Over medium/high heat place the shrimp into the skillet. You can either cook the shrimp in a cast iron skillet or grill them.Save the rest of the crema to drizzle over the tacos at the end. Place in a small bowl, add a few spoons of the avocado crema and toss to combine. Using a mandoline or knife, shred the cabbages. If the consistency is too thick, add another tbsp of water. Pulse until all the ingredients are smooth. While the shrimp is marinating, in a food processor add the avocado crema ingredients: avocado, cilantro, jalapeño, garlic, lime juice, yogurt, olive oil, water and kosher salt.Place in refrigerator and marinate for max 30 minutes. Add in prepped shrimp, stir to coat all the shrimp with marinade. In a small bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients: 3 tbsp avocado oil, lime juice, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, garlic, red pepper flakes, and kosher salt.( Easy to remember because “c” is for cooked!) Assembling shrimp tacos A great way to know if shrimp are cooked is if they make a “c” shape. If you are cooking them on the stovetop ( depending on the size of the shrimp), they will cook in about 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through. Tip: If you are going to grill them, skewer them on either soaked bamboo sticks or metal skewers. To cook the shrimp, you can either grill them or cook them on a cast-iron skillet. The rest of the sauce will be used to top the tacos! Cooking spicy shrimp in a skillet Just try to be consistent with your size of cuts.Īdd a few spoons of avocado crema and toss with tongs to coat. Tip: If you do not have a mandoline, a knife will do the trick. Using a purple cabbage and a green cabbage, I sliced them on my mandoline ( here is my be careful note, always use the guard or a protective cutting glove when using). Now for a quick cabbage slaw to top your spicy shrimp tacos! For this avocado crema recipe, I used greek yogurt, but you can substitute sour cream as well! Shrimp marinade ingredients Don’t accidentally use burrito tortillas! What is avocado crema?Ĭrema is a Mexican condiment that is a creamy sauce similar to sour cream consistency with a slightly tangy flavor. No matter which kind of tortillas you use, I suggest making sure they are small. This is also the best option for those with a gluten allergy! If you use corn tortillas, you will need to warm them up before assembling the tacos so they are easier to handle. they also hold a bit more if you stuff them too much. The best kind of tortillas to use for these spicy shrimp tacos is completely up to you!įlour tortillas are easier to use because you don’t have to bake them first. What type of tortillas to use for shrimp tacos The avocado crema is easy to assemble and so versatile to use as a dip, a sauce, or spread!.The avocado crema doubles as a sauce on top and a sauce to toss the shredded cabbage in.You know shrimp are done when they form a “c”, for “cooked.” They only take about 4-6 minutes minutes to cook, depending on size. Shrimp marinate quickly to take on and enhance the flavor of the shrimp. Shrimp is a great protein to use in tacos. They have smart formatting features that include drag and drop, adding notes, and much more.Taskade is available on the following platforms: Web, iOS, Android, Chrome, Mac, and PC. Working in a big company may be challenging, even more so if your team is dispersed. Our mission from day one was super simple: to replace Slack, Asana, and Google Docs.In this article, I’ll share an in-depth Taskade Review. Y Combinator – provides seed funding for start-ups as well as other educational resources A few resources on team management and productivity that John suggests: It just told us how much more important it is. But most of the things that we have been working on in the past year or two hasn’t really changed from our original goal when we started in 2017. Product market fit goes back to prioritization and getting your team aligned so they understand the importance of what they are doing and what the company is doing as a whole.įor us it has been an uphill battle, when it comes to prioritization. Why are all of these task management tools still stuck in the past? Product Market Fit They want to help teams manage their projects from the ideation phase, all the way to completion. When it comes to the aspect that John and Taskade want to focus on, it is the task management portion. Communication, collaboration, and coordination are important for any remote team, no matter what industry. These are the three things that Taskade focuses on and what they want to help their customers with. Step 3: Communication, Collaboration, Coordination So the synchronous meetings are only twice a week but throughout the week you might have other, smaller one-on-one sessions or the teams that need to huddle or talk together can meet on their own. At each of these meetings, it is important to make sure that everyone is heard and offers something to the team (whether if it’s a new idea or a status update on current projects). Taskade is adamant about having two all-hands meetings each week: one at the beginning of the week and one toward the end. When you’re in different time zones, the way to be efficient is to be optimal. Their rule of thumb is asynchronous most of the time, and real-time only some of the time. Because of that, they have first-hand knowledge of how to run a successful business across time zones. The Taskade team has always worked remotely (not just in homes across a single town, but spanning the globe). The idea for us was always to replace all of them, or as many of them as possible. The idea behind Taskade was always to be able to replace all of the single-task services and products (Asana, Trello, Slack, and Basecamp). The Components of Quality Remote Team Productivity Today John talks with us about what companies can do to ensure their work-from-home teams are being productive without micromanaging their every move. Taskade makes the complex task of coordinating team members across the world much more simple and streamlined. They help supercharge companies with collaborative task lists, mind maps, and more, in one unified workspace. John Xie and Taskade (which also has a remote-based team) help other companies with remote teams chat, organize, and get things done. But how can one ensure that, when there are so many team members, so far apart from one another? With more and more people having to work at home, it is essential that they stay focused and motivated. Remote team productivity is an issue that more companies are having to deal with these days. |
